Naz Bird, co-founder of Miles & Bird, shares her love of the local area, how she and partner Andrew Miles found themselves working in Bridge Road, and the benefits of being surrounded by amazing restaurants and independent boutiques.
How did you find yourself on Bridge Road?
Andrew and I purchased our pretty Victorian office with courtyard garden back in February 2016 – exactly five years ago this month. The location is great for the areas Miles & Bird covers (Molesey, Teddington, and the Hamptons), and then we fell in love with the road.
Why do you love Bridge Road?
It’s a unique one-of-a-kind destination bustling with quality independent shops and restaurants; antiques, art & crafts, charming boutiques, and delicious food. Bridge Road is great fun and a hive of activity during its two main annual events – the RHS Hampton Court Flower Show ‘Village in Bloom’ window display competition, and the annual Christmas Winter Wander, in usual times.
Tell us about the community spirit on Bridge Road?
There’s a very special camaraderie that comes from seeing work neighbours every day, whether you’re having a laugh together or ‘putting the world to rights’. We also shop locally for housewarming presents for our buyers and when they are new to the area, we love introducing them to our fellow traders.
What do you like best about working in the area?
In the warmer months, one of my simple pleasures is to soak up the atmosphere with a spot of lunch in the Palace gardens. It’s just a short stroll across Hampton Court Bridge, and I can enjoy a sandwich amongst the daffodils in spring, or in the walled Rose Garden as we head into summer.
Are there any ‘cons’ to working in Bridge Road? Sometimes the food is too delicious and tempting…
